How to install laminate flooring correctly

People often pick laminate, because it is multifunctional, reliable and easy to install. This kind of flooring appeared about 20 years ago, and it became popular in many countries across the globe. The laminate is also convenient, because it can be installed on various hard surfaces, such as: plywood, concrete, vinyl or wooden flooring; it is also the cheapest and the sturdiest of all other materials.
Talking about sturdiness, laminate is a kind of material that is not afraid of severe hits and some types of laminate will also endure the fall of flower pots from a window sill, a pot falling from a table, claws of your pets. Such sturdiness makes laminate a very attractive material for laying floors. Another reason of its popularity is the fact that it is environmentally friendly, it doesn’t burn, doesn’t emit toxic gases during a fire and it is resistant to most chemical substances and solvents.

If you decided to install laminate floor by yourself, you should know that it is not recommended to put it in a bathroom or any other room with high humidity. Also, laminate should stay in an apartment it is meant to be installed in for at least 48 hours. This is necessary to help your laminate to adapt to the environment.

You’ll need the following tools when installing laminate flooring:
A hammer;
A wooden block;
A saw;
Clamp;
Ruler and a pencil;
Wedges to maintain the distance between the laminate cover and walls;
Plastic cover, which will serve as a steam isolation (only if you plan to install laminate on the concrete base);
Sound dampening lining.

Remember to check your laminate! Make sure that all the packs were not opened and the laminate itself is not damaged. Broken panels also must not be used during the installation because they’re not covered by the money back guarantee. If you found some broken pieces during the installation, stop the procedure and return damaged goods back to the seller.

How to install laminate?
Since laminate is installed in a so called “swimming” way (without braces), they should never be attached to each other with nails, screws, glue, etc.

Where can it be installed?
Another thing to know how to lay laminate floor properly is to know the kinds of surface it can be installed on. It is possible to lay laminate on linoleum, floorboards or concrete base, but you must make sure it is flat, dry and sturdy enough. It is also not recommended to install laminate floor on any kind of carpet, because it will cause static discharge.

If you decided that your floor will be installed on a concrete base, make sure that the humidity in that apartment is low, rough areas are smoothed and the base is clean, dry, flat and sturdy. Then place a plastic wrapping to provide steam isolation and the last step would be to spread the sound dampening lining and place laminate.

Steam isolation is not required if you’d like to install laminate on the linoleum or wood flooring.
Laminate and floor heating

If you’d like to install laminate flooring and you want it to be with heating, you should choose water heating. The thing is that water heating heats the floor smoothly, while others may lead to permanent damage.
